What is Employer Paid Reimbursement (EPR)?

An Employer Paid Reimbursement (EPR) is a benefit funded by your employer to help boost your total compensation and support acceptable living wages. You might also hear it called a Wage Parity or Living Wage benefit.

How Does It Work?

  • Funded by your employer, based on the number of hours you work
  • No payroll deduction required
  • Funds are added as often as your employer sends a file to Ameriflex (usually monthly)
  • There’s no annual renewal or calendar—these plans are treated as month-to-month

What Can EPR Cover?

Coverage varies by employer, but EPR may reimburse you for:

  • Medical, dental, and vision expenses (Section 213(d) expenses, including RX and over-the-counter items if allowed)
  • Transit expenses (most common)
  • Parking expenses
  • Vision and Dental care
  • Dependent care expenses
  • Cell phone reimbursement
Note: Due to system limitations, we cannot customize EPR coverage per group. If RX expenses are allowed, this is noted globally—not per employer.

No IIAS Support

Because EPR plans do not support IIAS (Inventory Information Approval System), you cannot swipe your Ameriflex card for purchases. All claims must be submitted manually—except for transit, which must be paid with your card (manual transit claims are not accepted).

How to Submit a Claim

For all eligible claims (except parking), you must include:

  • Your full name, SSN, and employer name
  • Who the expense was for and their relationship to you
  • Description of the expense
  • Provider name
  • Date the service was incurred (when the service was provided, not paid)
  • Expense amount
  • Certification that the expense was not reimbursed elsewhere
  • Your signature

Additional documentation may be required, such as:

  • Prescription (RX)

  • Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)

  • Orthodontist contract (if applicable)

What Happens if I Leave My Job?

If you're terminated or leave your employer, you can still file claims to get reimbursed from your available EPR balance.
